Frequently Asked Questions
We want your stay at Hidden Haven Adrian to be as easy as possible. Here are some extra details about the home and the property to help you plan your trip.
How many people can stay at Hidden Haven?
The house is 2,200 square feet and comfortably holds up to 13 guests. We have three bedrooms with a variety of sleeping options, including a King bed, three queens (one is a sleeper sofa), and a twin. We also provide rollaway beds and pack-n-plays if you are traveling with little ones.
What kind of outdoor activities are available?
We have set up the grounds for plenty of activity. You will find the BigFoot Ninja obstacle course for those over four feet tall, the LittleFoot PlayPlace for younger children, a volleyball net, and disc golf. We also have a lighted patio with a gas grill and a fire pit with wood provided for those perfect Michigan evenings.
Do the owners live on the property?
Yes, we (Steve and Selena) live in the upstairs portion of the home. However, the guest area is a completely separate two-level living space with its own private entrance. You will have your own space to relax and recharge, but we are available if you need anything during your stay.
What exactly is a "bermed" house?
It is a unique architectural style where the home is built three-fourths underground with 10-inch thick concrete walls. This design acts as a natural regulator, keeping the house cool and quiet during the spring and summer without the constant noise of a loud air conditioner.
How much land do we have access to?
The entire property covers 14.5 acres, and we have set aside 12 acres of wooded hills and mowed fields specifically for our guests. You are welcome to explore the scenery and wildlife along our two marked trails, the pink and blue paths.
Will we see any wildlife during our stay?
Almost certainly. Our grounds are home to deer, turkeys, squirrels, and many types of birds. At night, you might hear owls or coyotes. We recommend staying on the manicured trails to avoid ticks and keeping your car windows rolled up because the local raccoons and cardinals are very curious neighbors. Also, keep an eye out for Sasquatch.
Why isn't there a dishwasher in the kitchen?
This is an intentional choice. We believe that standing together at the sink to wash and dry dishes is a great way to encourage the kind of family conversations and connections that modern life usually rushes past.
Is there plenty to do if it rains?
Definitely. Our upper-level loft features a theater room with a Smart TV and DVDs, plus a game room with foosball, electronic darts, and side-by-side basketball. There is also an upright piano, a collection of board games, and free Wi-Fi with a signal booster so you can stay as connected as you like.
Who can utilize the Bigfoot Ninja obstacle course?
Ultimately, anyone who books the Outdoor Adventure Park (Day-Stay) can use it, but there are very strict rules (ages 10+, fitness requirements, no horseplay, etc.) More information is available upon request. Hidden Haven Vacation Rental guests may use it if it's available.
Is there a Waiver to sign for the Bigfoot Ninja?
Yes, and a parent/guardian must monitor the child under 18 years of age.
What will we find on the pink trail through the woods?
I'm glad you asked. There are pink ribbons to guide you along the way. Check out the different signs posted, and if you get tired or want to take a break, you will find 3 or more benches to rest and meditate. Don't forget to look for Bigfoot!
I live in the city. What dangers lurk in the dark, and what kinds of animal sounds might I hear?
Country living can be scary for people not used to the sounds, especially at night. We have coyotes who travel in packs in the woods who make barking noises when they catch prey. You might hear raccoons fussing at each other, birds singing in the daytime, owls hooting at night, and even the mysterious sounds of Sasquatch which has only been heard at night. True story.
Accommodation Questions
Have some questions? We've got answers. Take a look at our most frequently asked questions!
Is There Central Air?
No. Our home is a bermed house. This means that three-fourths of the house was built underground with 10 –inch thick concrete walls. If the doors and windows are opened to allow cool air in and closed before it gets warm outside, the house stays reasonably cool in the spring and summer. However, upstairs in the loft, there is a window air conditioner since the heat rises.
How Is the House Heated?
Glad you asked. We have two heat sources: a wood stove and electric baseboard heaters. You can pick either one depending on your preference.
What Is the Water Source?
We have a well, and the entire house has a water softener. There is a special faucet in the kitchen for RO (reverse osmosis) drinking water that is refreshing.
Do You Have a Generator?
Not at this time, no.
Is the House Wheelchair Accessible?
No, we regret that we cannot accommodate guests with wheelchairs easily.
What About Smoking/Vaping?
Smoking and vaping are prohibited and could be costly for guests who violate this rule. If you must, ALL SMOKING AND VAPING must be done outside the house. Remember, we have 12 acres for you to enjoy outside.
How Many Beds Do You Have?
We have 1 King, 3 queen (includes sleeper sofa), 1 futon, 1 twin, 1 chair/bed, 2 rollaways, and 2 foam chair beds for children. Altogether, we easily sleep 13.
What Sleeping Arrangements Do You Have for Infants?
We have two packs of plays that are stored in the bedroom closets.
Can I Bring My Pet?
We have a strict NO PET policy. Although we love animals, this is especially important for other guests who might suffer from animal allergies.
What should we do if something gets broken during our stay?
If someone breaks an item, or damages something, PLEASE LET US KNOW by a text or a call (if it's an emergency). Letting us know allows us to attempt to remedy the problem.
